In this lovely writing experiment since the beginning of the year, I have learned a lot. For instance, I don’t love fashion news and dissecting the trends as much as I thought I did. I am actually much more interested in nutrition writing–about recipes and the terribly interesting books I read day-to-day. This site was originally called Hairpins and Happiness because I wanted to talk about every aspect of beauty: from fashion and personal style to healthy habits to education and the development of a beautiful mind. Not only was this a huge undertaking, but it wasn’t true to me and my values–as much as those subjects interest me, I am by no means knowledgeable enough to cover them in the depth that I would like to and I don’t want to portray myself as something I am not. I changed the site to Pretty Healthy to set the new tone I’d like to develop.
I want to talk about beautiful food, peak season produce, and nutrition simply as a dabbler for now–which reminds me: I am not a medical professional or a nutrition specialist, so take any advice with a grain of salt (or low-sodium seasoning, for those so inclined) and talk to your doctor or a local Registered Dietian before doing anything big. I plan to weave in posts about beauty and fashion (you have to reward healthy eating and solid blogging habits with something, right?) and the cool things going on in education, news, and urban design (walkable cities! I am hoping they will soon be a thing all over the country, not just in trendy urban areas) as they come up. I am hoping to use this blog as a way to stay up to date on the world of dietetics and to develop an effective style for writing about nutrition for the public. In the future, I dream of being a dietitian and hope this will be my platform to talk about eating well and thriving. Until then, please enjoy the ride.
